  • meek

    it's not that He didn't have any power to overthrow those who put Him on the cross.
    he had all the power to take control;
    he had all the right.

    Imagine:
    He probably had the power to crush his persecutors to smithereens, but he didn't.

    this is what it means to be meek:
    to surrender your right, your power for the sake of loving others.
    this is pure strength;
    this is what it means to be God almighty.

    It blows my mind once again.
    and it brings me to a place of humility
    and desire to become more and more like Christ.

  • "powned" by a six-year-old.

    My six-year-old student has a Nintendo DS Lite. The deal we usually have is that if he finishes his work quickly, we can play Nintendo DS. It's supposed to be "we," but he tends to hog the machine. One day, he was finishing the last "world" when I asked him if I could play. I died in seconds. Trying to save face, I told him that whether he believed it or not, I was pretty good at playing Super Mario 3. Puzzled, he asked, "you mean the old school version?" >.<

    After that, he kept showing me up by asking, "does the old school one do this?" and then he would sit on the blocks, bounce on them, and get the consecutive coins. Then, all of a sudden, there would be a giant mushroom that would make Mario or Luigi invincible. The kid beat the level with a cinch.

    I know DS came out a while ago, but what an unbelievable revelation! There are CRAZY new renditions that completely blow me away. There are tricks left from the old ones like the whole going up into the sky to get more coins. But, the whole moving blocks in the fire pits, the graphics, the... idea of going back to my youth? (hehe) makes me really want to get a DS.

    I honestly feel ancient. If anything, using that word, "powned" was extremely awkward...

  • a sore tale...

    last Tuesday, as I was walking down the stairs of some kid's house, I happened to slip on the last two steps. I landed right on my tail bone and hit my back on the step above. The first sensation I had was that my behind felt numb. Then, all of a sudden this surge of energy shot up my spine and told me that there was something wrong. It wasn't that I was immobile. I could get up and walk. But, I did not feel right. All day, I could not sit  properly without feeling shocks up my tail bone and spine.

    I got X-rays taken on Thursday, and it turned out that I had "chipped" my tail bone a bit. The doctor said that I didn't have to worry much about it, or even go for therapy. I'm feeling a lot better, but I have to say that I never want to feel this kind of pain ever in my life again. This kind of pain is so sudden. I make some kind of movement, and I get this jolt of pain. If I can't anticipate it, I hate it.

    My physiotherapy friend of mine gave me a donut shaped inflatable cushion to sit on. It really does help a lot. Unfortunately, when I took it to my student's house, he said to me, "Teacher, you didn't hurt your tail bone, did you? You actually have hemorrhoids, huh?" Apparently the donut is used for those who have hemorrhoids. >.< . No wonder my father warned me to put the donut in a bag instead of carrying it all over the place. hehehe.

    So, lesson learned: Do not wear socks down a flight of wooden (and wiped down?) stairs.
